Learning Environment

This course uses a blended-learning format. The introductions, explanations, and examples can also support independent study.

HTML learning environment

This public course website is your main learning environment. It contains the learning materials, assignment tasks, and help. Work through the units in order, especially if you are new to R. You can move between units freely, but following the sequence is recommended for beginners.

The site also has a FAQ page and a comment area on the first page of each teaching unit.

Flexible learning with deadlines

Use the course materials to complete the assignments. Synchronous sessions are used to discuss them.

You may use the course materials and other resources to solve the assignments, but you must meet the submission deadlines. See Deliverables for details.

Hybrid setting

The course meets weekly in a synchronous hybrid format. You can attend in person in room F 14 | 00A19 or online using the meeting link sent by email and provided in ILIAS.

ILIAS

ILIAS is the University of Marburg’s course platform. We use it to manage the course and share documents. Open the ILIAS course space and sign in with your student account. The online meeting links for the weekly sessions and tutor sessions are available in ILIAS.

Classroom 50 and GitHub

Use Classroom 50 to create one personal GitHub repository for all your course assignments. You will practice Git as you work and keep using the same repository throughout the course.

Your instructors must first add you to the course roster. Sign in to Classroom 50 with the GitHub account registered for the course. The invitation links do not add you to the roster automatically. If you see Not a member yet, contact your instructors with your GitHub username.

Find both Classroom 50 invitation links in the ILIAS course space. Use them in this order:

1. Open the classroom onboarding link. If you are not yet a member of GeoMOER-Students-Space, accept the invitation to join the GitHub organization.
2. Open the course repository assignment link to create your personal repository. Complete step 1 before step 2.

After step 2, open My submission in Classroom 50 and follow the link to your repository on GitHub. Copy its URL from the Code menu when you connect RStudio with GitHub. You do not need to accept a new Classroom 50 assignment each week.

Please add your full name or your student account name to your GitHub profile. This makes it easier for the course instructors to match your assignments to you.
