| EX | A short history of SDM |
Species Distribution Modeling (SDM) has evolved from simple climate “envelopes” to high-dimensional machine learning and deep learning models. Understanding this evolution is critical for recognizing why certain technical defaults exist today and identifying the directions in which the field must still grow.
Exercise: Collaborative Timeline Research
In this section, we will collectively build a timeline of the evolution of Species Distribution Modeling. You should identify important milestones and technical breakthroughs that shifted the paradigm of the field.
Instructions:
- Coordinate with your peers and split who wants to research what. Communicate if someone finds something that could be relevant for a different milestone. Try to fill in information for as many milestones as possible.
- Try to find important authors, exact years, or publications for the milestones and write them in the Padlet.
- You can also create a new post on the Padlet if you find a milestone that is not yet in the timeline.
- Add why something had been a game changer in the field.
Th link to the padlet is on ILIAS.
