All 17 records and 64 columns are retained. Headers, survey/table descriptions and region names are translated; identifiers, numbers and the original 94 empty cells are preserved. Percentages retain the source precision of one decimal place. Trailing empty formatted rows are omitted. No missing value is replaced by zero or inferred. - destatis-land-use-2024-dictionary.csv: complete 64-column crosswalk. The english_column field identifies the teaching CSV column; source_column and german_label retain the original German header and presentation-table label. English meanings, units and original category codes explain each field. These are course translations, not official Destatis English translations. Reproduce the English CSV from the unchanged workbook and column crosswalk, from the course repository root: python3 staging/examples/translate_land_use_2024.py The converter uses only Python's standard library. It translates survey/table text and region names and checks source headers, IDs, year and missing cells. The CSV filename is retained so that existing course download links stay valid. English region names include Germany, Lower Saxony, North Rhine-Westphalia, Hesse, Rhineland-Palatinate, Bavaria, Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, Saxony, Saxony-Anhalt and Thuringia; other names retain their usual spelling. The csv-33111-03 source worksheet is supplied by Destatis for data processing. The report explains that its CSV tables omit footnotes and further explanations. Use the presentation tables, publisher's legend and explanatory sheets alongside these data. The source description calls the table 33111-3.1; the worksheet/table navigation labels it 33111-03. Both labels refer to this source table. The records are Germany (code 0) and 16 federal states (codes 01 to 16), all at the 2024 reference date. The first five columns describe the source, year and region. The sixth is total area in hectares. The remaining 58 fields are shares of total area in percent, at different levels of a category hierarchy. Do not sum parent categories and their components or combine the national aggregate with the states. The separate sustainability-indicator tables apply additional exclusions; their indicator is not a simple sum of all settlement and transport area. Read their definitions when reproducing that indicator. Empty source cells do not explain the reason for unavailability. The lesson imports them as NA. The publisher's zero legend allows positive values smaller than half a unit in the last displayed digit. Displayed zero and NA must not be treated as interchangeable. ALKIS became the statistical basis in 2016; the catalog was expanded in 2023. Historical versions require a comparability check before combining them with this report. State IDs remain character strings 01-16. - destatis-land-use-2024-states.rds contains 16 states in 2024. Fields: Year, ID, Place, Area_ha, Settlement, Transport, Vegetation, Agriculture, Forest, Water. Place uses the English region names from the teaching CSV. Area_ha is hectares; the six land-use columns are percentages of each state's total area. No imputation or reweighting is applied. - The four main categories Settlement, Transport, Vegetation and Water are a partition up to rounding. Agriculture and Forest are components of Vegetation; do not sum both hierarchical levels. - This Unit-03 snapshot is not the regional multi-year dataset used by the later cleaning/regression assignments. It does not include districts or an equivalent of the earlier Recreation variable. - Unit 03's CSV I/O page shows the same preparation before saveRDS().
